The Early Riser: Day 1

by Frost on March 10, 2011

To better understand the suffering of my imaginary homeboy Jesus, I’m waking up at 7:00AM every day for Lent.

This is a medium-sized change from my usual routine of waking up around 8:15AM and scrambling through my morning routine in 15 minutes before I’m out the door. Now, it’s eight o’clock and I’m ready to go, looking and feeling even fresher than usual – showered, shaved, shirt ironed – and did a half hour of light yoga.

So I feel good. And I was also pointed towards this. Leo gets up at 4:30AM though, so he’s a true G and would probably just shake his head at my 7:00AM goal.

7am is getting up LATE in my culture. Our practice demands getting up well before dawn.

Funny, Frost, I too just started getting up at 7 each day, though not for Lent. I find that going to sleep by 11 makes it much easier. I did it for productivity reasons – I’m trading a wasted hour where I’m tired to an hour where I feel recharged.

That’s definitely a huge benefit. Check out the Zen habits link!
